Background
As many as 60% of children are subjected to some form of bullying in Australian schools - or at home via the internet. A recent study by the Wesley Mission found child victims carry their battle scars into adulthood.
Sunrise believes the time has come to stop talking about the problem - and instead, take real action. Join us to pressure the Federal Government by signing our online petition below.
The Petition Explained
With many children now being bullied via sites such as Facebook, we believe the Government needs to take stronger action with a formal system for dealing with complaints. Regular offenders should be flagged and ultimately banned from sites. At the moment, the websites are allowed to regulate this themselves. We believe an independent regulator is desperately needed.
Policies for dealing with bullying in schools varies from state to state and from school to school. While some have outstanding policies, others have none at all. We want the best of the best integrated into a single policy imposed on schools nationwide.
The Petition
We, the undersigned, call on the Rudd Government to:
1. appoint a regulator for social networking sites.
2. introduce a national uniform policy for tackling bullying.
